Fact Checking The Democrats

Our opponents are spreading false information about our township to win votes.

We are setting the record straight. Here are the facts.

Fact Check #1

“No more tax & fee hikes” ; “make East Pennsboro affordable again”

We all want East Pennsboro to be affordable for our families and neighbors. A promise to cut taxes is simple to make, but the reality of running a township that keeps you safe is more complex.

When you look at the township’s budget, you’re not just seeing numbers, you’re seeing the foundation of our community’s safety and quality of life. In recent years, our community, like yours, has faced rising costs. The fuel for our snowplows and the materials to pave our roads simply cost more.

Most importantly, any increases have gone directly to supporting our essential employees—the police officers who respond to emergencies and the public works crews who keep our streets clear and safe. These are our neighbors, and we have a duty to honor the union contracts that provide for modest salary increases.

So, when our opponents promise to cut taxes and fees, they avoid the most important question: What essential services are they willing to sacrifice?

Would they propose freezing pay for the police officers who protect our families? Would they suggest cutting the road crew budget that residents depend on during winter storms? One of our opponents is a former public works employee himself and knows how vital these services are.

Our philosophy is simple: Responsible budgeting that prioritizes safety and livability. We are always seeking innovative ways to save taxpayer money. That’s why the current Republican commissioners had the foresight to build a solar farm—at no cost to residents—to significantly reduce the township’s electricity bill. This is the difference between empty campaign promises and the smart, proactive governance that saves money without compromising the essential services that make East Pennsboro a secure and desirable place to live.

Fact Check #2

“Stop the wasteful new building plan”

Our opponents are campaigning against a multi-million-dollar new township building that simply does not exist. Let’s be clear: there is no plan, no proposal, and no vote for a new building. This is a baseless rumor being used to mislead voters.

The real issue isn’t a phantom building, but the responsible management of our current one. Our 100-year-old township building is extremely inefficient and costly to maintain. Your tax dollars are continuously spent on patching frequent sewer backups, a leaky roof, and constant heating and cooling problems. This is the definition of wasteful spending.

Planning for the future is imperative and responsible—especially when compared to reactionary approaches that were taken in the past. That’s why our approach is to solve real problems with practical solutions. It means fixing what is broken, making smart decisions for our community’s future and not getting distracted by the manufactured controversies our opponents are focused on.

Fact Check #3

“Bring back transparency & accountability”

Transparency and accountability are the bedrock of good government. While our opponents make false statements, we have a proven record of open and accessible governance. It’s important for voters to have the facts.

These accusations are completely baseless—a clear attempt to manufacture an issue where none exists. Our record of transparency speaks for itself. Every Board of Commissioners meeting is, and has always been, open to the public. For those who cannot attend, meeting agendas are posted online before every session, and official minutes are posted and archived on the township website for anyone to review, anytime. Every decision, contract, and expenditure made by the Board is a matter of public record, fully accessible through Pennsylvania’s Right-to-Know Law. There is no “wall” to tear downthe doors are already open.

We are proud of this record and are always open to new ideas that improve accessibility. Voters should be wary of candidates who promise to fix problems that don’t exist.

Our commitment to our volunteer firefighters is demonstrated through action, not last-minute campaign promises. We actively support existing county-level benefits and are currently working directly with the Fire Chief to develop the best possible program for our township. Our steadfast support for the dedicated fire tax ensures funding goes directly to equipment and training—allowing our firefighters to focus on saving lives, not fundraising.Transparency and accountability are principles we put into practice every day in governing East Pennsboro Township. While our opponents make empty promises, we have a proven record of open and accessible governance.
